Fluid Intake
Fluid intake is very important with cystinuric dogs as it helps flush the bladder and eliminate any Cystine crystals from lingering. It is a good idea to have more than one bowl of water available at different points of your home for your dog. A problem for many dog owners is that some dogs just wont drink enough, so here are some solutions for helping with that.
1. Always provide fresh water.
2. Don't stare at your dog waiting for him to drink, you only stress him that way as he thinks there is something wrong.
3. Do not buy plastic bowls as the water takes on the smell of plastic. Inox is best.
4. Add flavor to his water by adding sliced watermelon (remove seeds and white parts).
5. Learn how to make bone broth.
6. Add water to his food (try not to make everything a soup).
7. Feed fresh fruit like watermelon, apples (skinned an seeded), peaches and pineapple.
8. Offer water while playing in the park.
9. Share your water with your dog.
10. Make yummy noises when You drink water.
Remember all the times your parents gave you something to eat or drink saying it was good for you and forced you to have it and then avoid that behavior with your dog.
