The K9ACC Team was founded in 2016 after experiencing a life threatening moment with our own dog Thor, an American Staffordshire Terrier.
After a dreadful 3 month ordeal and a successful outcome Thor managed to escape an early and painful death at the age of 1.5 years old. Though Thor was lucky and thanks to animal surgeon Dr. Dimitris Ferlemis who performed emergency laparoscopy and thousands of stones where removed, it was now time to make sure that this situation was prevented and that Thor would live to see old age and no future relapses occur. This is when Alexander started an extensive research plan that is to this day ongoing and showing great results as a healthy treatment for canine Cystinuria is proving to be possible. The reason behind this journey for treatment was the shocking realization of post surgical care that was to be for life. The idea of "specialized" dry dog food and medication for Thor's entire life was to much to handle especially when all side-effects where analyzed.
An initial 4 months worth of research showed that there is not enough information on dog Cystinuria and most of it was just repetitions of the same information copy pasted from site to site and book to book. Having no choice at the time, Thor was receiving a medication overload and fed "special clinical" food that was in no way nutritious or beneficial.
Another 2 years where spent on deep medical research and understanding of this gene anomaly and ways of treating it successfully. It was during this time that many sources started to provide important information that even though was buried in medical terms, was carefully put together to form a clear understanding of what was to be a natural treatment of Cystinuria for Thor.
Having carefully structured a data system that resulted in us creating a program which analyzed and produced accurate information on the amino-acids Cystine and Methionine as well as all nutritional information needed, we managed to create a series of meals that are enriched with our anti-Cystinuria formula that he named Thorium.
After a gradual incorporation of this diet and Thorium to Thor's every day life and various tests that include blood, urine and ultrasounds it has been proven to work and Thor is living a life that is stone free with a healthy bladder and no medications or side-effects.
Though the results are truly amazing, it is still a work in progress until a final version of Thorium is produced, but until then this blog will help educate anyone in need of a clear understanding of Cystinuria and how to start and win the fight against it !
